Our first trip to the Urgent Care Clinic......

Yesterday, after my Steering team meeting we had some time to waste before the Wednesday night meal, so Grace, Dax and I were hanging out in this open area just playing. Our church has these beautiful big windows with wood trim surrounding them. We were just casually watching kids play outside when Grace did this twirl thing and tripped and came right down on her forehead on this wooden trim!! I saw the whole thing and boy did she hit it hard............I knew immediately that she was hurt! If she would have hit her head on the window or floor, it would have been just a bruise but since she hit directly on the wooden trim, which happens to be sharp and edgy, all I saw was blood everywhere!!

I hesitated for a split second thinking of the worst..........like skull fracture or her passing out or whatever else bad that could happen! I picked her up and held her thinking of what to do next...... and for some odd reason, I could just not think...... I knew with bumps and bruises I needed ice but all this blood was confusing me.... it literally was dripping like a faucet! (sorry to be so graphic)

Luckily, I had many church friends who jumped into action and were soooooo very helpful!! They offered to take me to the ER, get us food, clean her up, watch Dax and best of all pray for us! Once we got it to stop bleeding, (I guess head wounds bleed a lot compared to other parts of the body) we were able to put some butterfly bandaids to hold it together. Gene was able to get off so we picked him up and went to the urgent care clinic at our pediatrician's office. Basically, she ended up being a good candidate for dermabond, which is glue. They use it a lot on kids because it is less traumatic than stitches! (She would have needed a few stitches!)

All in all, she ended up fine and was pretty much herself about 5-10 mins after it happened!! I know I cried more then she did! Actually, everyone at church was amazed about how calm she was and how she was doing so well!! Even the doctor and nurse kept telling her she was soooo brave!! She is a tough little girl!!

As for me, the mom, I was surprised with how little my brain worked those first few minutes after it happened! Everything I have read or knew, along with what needed to happen next, just got all jumbled up in my mind!! All I could do was hold her! I always felt that I was good under pressure and would know what to do but at this moment I literally just couldn't get my thoughts put into action??? So lets just say I feel blessed that I had many other people who could tell me what to do and help me when I needed them!! I can't do it all by myself, so I am thankful for the friends who stepped in when I needed them the most!
