Myelofibrosis......

We found out this past Wednesday that my older brother Robby has a rare bone marrow disease called Myelofibrosis. It is a disease that usually affects people over 50. It disrupts the production of the blood cells which is not good! Prognosis is different for all people but the average is about 4 years, though some people live lots longer. The only cure is a successful bone marrow transplant, which has a 30% death rate. Since a BMT has serious risks they are not going to attempt one until it is absolutely necessary. My oldest brother Christopher is not a match but my sister and I have not been tested yet. They believe that he has had it for at least 4 years.

Some good things that my brother has going for him:

-He is younger then the normal Myelofibrosis patient which is seen as a strength.

-He has great insurance through GM and hopefully will have access to great doctors.

-He has had contact with one of the top doctors, who is an expert from the Mayo clinic already! The doctor mentioned that some new drugs are in the horizon to help treat the disease.

-His red blood cells are higher then expected at this stage which is good!

-He has me, as a sister, who will pray pray pray!!!

Thanks for all the prayers and concern!!
